Community outreach is a long standing tradition for the membership of The Helena May. Member volunteers carry out a number of projects each year designed to benefit women and girls in Hong Kong. In 2005, the Council set up a Community Outreach Committee (COC) to coordinate and implement the growing Community Outreach Programme in accordance with the object of The Helena May. The COC submits names and details of suitable charities each year for the Helena May Council to select and nominate as its Charity of the Year. Charities are evaluated for their efficacy, viability, and relevance. The Committee also initiates Community Based Projects which aim to help underprivileged, those with identifiable needs, personal development and/or service to the community. The COC also organises activities such as health talks and activities to raise awareness and/or improve the well being of members and the public. The Helena May was awarded Caring Company by the Hong Kong Council of Social Services 2007-2008.
