The Helena May Exchange of Library Books Project (HELP) Second hand English books donated from The Helena May library and club members were provided to primary schools to promote the use of English reading resources. Donated books are borrowed by students and shared with their parents. This collection is circulated among participating schools.
English Reading Sessions The Helena May volunteers conduct reading and conversation sessions for primary school children to promote the speaking of English. Books are provided from the Helena May Library. A "Reading with Children at Home" workshop was also organized for parents to raise their interest and skills in reading with their children at home.
Artist-in-residence Programme with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta The Helena May sponsored accommodation for some of the overseas musicians performing with The Hong Kong Sinfonietta as a way to utilize the Club's resources to help promote musical performances for the general public in Hong Kong. Conductor Scott Yoo and violinist Mengla Huang, both of whom performed at the Hong Kong Arts Festival, have made use of this programme.
Scottish Country Dance Classes Community Outreach volunteers organised Scottish Country Dance Classes at primary schools around the territory, bringing with them dance videos, traditional Scottish costumes, books, postcards and shortbread to promote Scottish culture and facilitate cultural exchange. The targeted recipients were Primary Students aged between 9 to 12. This activity was fun with the benefit that it provides the children with additional exercise.
Tung Chung Brass Band Learning from the Social Welfare Department that the Tung Chung District was in need of healthy recreational activities for teenagers, The Helena May collaborated with the Outlying Islands Women's Association to investigate the needs of the Tung Chung Brass Band.
The Helena May donated $50,000 to the Association for the purchase of 27 trumpets and 2 maces in 2006. The cheque presentation ceremony took place at The Helena May's 90th Anniversary Tea Party.
The Helena May and Hong Kong Girl Guides Association Joint 90th Anniversary Celebration Both organisations were founded in Hong Kong in 1916 and therefore both celebrated their 90th Anniversaries that year. Collaboration between the two organisations dates back to the founding year when The Helena May was used as the meeting place for the Guides.
In March 2006, The Helena May used this opportunity to give recognition and encouragement to 16 Outstanding Girl Guides and 84 Super Brownies selected from more than 50,000 girls for their personal achievement and community service by the award of a Special Helena May Anniversary Badge.
